THE third and final round of this year’s modelling competition has seen the last group of girls go through to the finale.
A total of 14 models were selected from the third round competitors last night at The Nines in Barrow.
Hundreds of votes registered on the Evening Mail website, via text voting and by audience members on the night sent the final group of girls through to next month’s final.
Evening Mail winners from round three, Sherri Bell from the under 18 category and Rebecca Clarke from the over 18s, were the first to be told they had made the final.
They were joined by text winners Chelsea Gibson-North (correct-surname has changed) and Jade Owings, and audience winners Emily Joel and Danyelle (correct) Minnican.
Last night, the three judges - former winners Hannah Hall and Paige Livingston, and Debenhams manager Faye McKinlay, also selected a further eight girls. Charlotte Ronald, Chelsea Wood and Megan Scott from the under 18s, and Jade Shannon, Sian Fitz-Gibbons, Leanne Goodwin, Kirsty Jepson and Zoe Barnard from the over 18s.
Sherri Bell, the first to be told she was through to the final, said: “I was so nervous to start with, but the whole process does wonderful things for your confidence. It’s been amazing.”
Throughout the evening, models sported Debenhams outfits, which will be on display in the store in Portland Walk, Barrow, today.
Ms McKinlay said: “They all looked absolutely fantastic when they came in, I was terrified it would take hours to get them sorted but it was a pleasure to work with them all.”
Audience members were treated to a catwalk performance by 2008 finalists Becky Dean, Erin Brown, Sophie Craig and the winner, Paige Livingston.
Round three finalists have all been issued a goody bag containing Latin American themed accessories, which they will use to create a unique outfit for the final.
Dawn Crabtree, organizer of the event, said: “The quality and standard has been exceptional, every single girl who has taken part has put in so much effort and determination, and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves.”
The Kells Modelling Competition 2009 will draw to a close at the final on June 18. Next year the competition will also double as a regional heat for Miss Cumbria.
The two lucky winners from the final, one from the under 18s and one from the over 18s, will attend a casting session and three day photoshoot with fashion firm Unique Boutique.
Winners will also be treated to a three-day all expenses paid trip to London to model for Unique at the Pure trade event, the UK’s biggest fashion and accessories trade show.
An all-inclusive trip to Fuerteventura in September for a photoshoot and modelling portfolio worth £500 is also on offer.

Have your say
it is a very good comp, I've entered myself.... but.... it does seem to be more about being popular as it is based on votes and those people who do not have many people who can afford tickets do not get the votes they deserve. It needs to be based more on the girls personalities and if they are good models or not. Maybe the competition rules for winning needs to be reassessed and it should be based on how the girls are as people not how many friends they have to vote for them. It is a very nice event though!
