Glorious Kirkby gala

Saturday’s Kirkby Gala saw families and friends turning out into bright sunshine to enjoy the day’s events

Held at the Kirkby Community Hall in Beck Side, the event was a huge success, with visitors browsing stalls and exhibitions and taking part in fun and games.

Keeping the youngsters captivated were a magician, a Punch and Judy show and a fun sports event, including egg-and-spoon and five-legged races.

And while the youngsters were kept busy, there was plenty to do for the grown-ups, who spent the day browsing cake and card stalls, trying their luck at the tombola, and enjoying exhibitions from local history and photographic societies.

They were also able to relax in the glorious sunshine while enjoying outdoor Indian head and hand massages.

The day was brought to a brilliant climax with the traditional gala night party.

Gail Burns is secretary of the Kirkby Community Centre, which organises and receives funding from the gala.

Miss Burns said: “It was great, a big success.

“It was very busy, there were hundreds there, about three to four hundred people, with a lot of young families.

“Everyone had a great time, it went really, really well.”
